Spark Plug - Removal

REMOVAL

Each combustion chamber has two spark plugs located under one ignition coil (1). Each ignition coil must be removed to gain access to one or both spark plugs.

1. Remove necessary air filter tubing and air intake components at the top of the engine and at the throttle body Air Cleaner - Removal.
2. Prior to removing the ignition coil(s), spray compressed air around coil base at the cylinder head. Remove the ignition coil(s) Ignition Coil - Removal.
3. Prior to removing the spark plug(s), spray compressed air into the cylinder head opening. This will help prevent foreign material from entering the combustion chamber.

CAUTION: Due to tight clearances in the spark plug well of the cylinder head, a conventional deep, thick-wall spark plug socket will not fit. Use a deep, THIN-WALL 5/8" spark plug socket for plug removal and installation.

4. Remove the spark plug(s) from the cylinder head using a quality THIN-WALL 5/8" spark plug socket with a rubber or foam insert.

CAUTION: Never use a motorized wire wheel brush to clean spark plugs. Metallic deposits will remain on spark plug insulator and will cause plug misfire.

CAUTION: Do not attempt to clean any of the spark plugs. Replace only.

5. Inspect spark plug condition.
