Cylinder 5 Glow Plug Excess Temperature
2137-CYLINDER 5 GLOW PLUG EXCESS TEMPERATURE
For a complete wiring diagram Refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on and the Glow Plug Module Glow Plug command on.
- Set Condition:
The Cylinder 5 Glow Plug circuit is open or shorted for 0.5 seconds.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding.Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting Procedure
1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC
1. Ignition on, engine not running.
2. With the scan tool, Clear DTCs in the Engine Control Module (ECM).
3. Perform several ignition cycles leaving the ignition on for at least 10 seconds then off for 10 seconds.
4. With the scan tool, read the ECM DTCs.
Did this DTC set again?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Refer to the *CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT DTC Diagnostic Procedure.Checking for an Intermittent DTC
2. GLOW PLUG CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect each Glow Plug harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Glow Plug Module harness connector.
4. Measure the resistance of each Glow Plug Control circuit between each Glow Plug harness connectors and the Glow Plug Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 10.0 ohms for each circuit?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the appropriate Glow Plug Control circuit for an open.
- Perform ECM Verification Test.ECM Verification Test
3. GLOW PLUG CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between ground and each Glow Plug Control circuit at each Glow Plug harness connector.
Is the resistance below 1000 ohms for any of the measurements?
Yes
- Repair the appropriate Glow Plug Control circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test.ECM Verification Test
No
- Go To 4
4. GLOW PLUG CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Measure the voltage of each Glow Plug Control circuit at each Glow Plug harness connector.
Is there voltage present on any of the Glow Plug Control circuits?
Yes
- Repair the appropriate Glow Plug Control circuit for a short to voltage
- Perform the ECM Verification Test.ECM Verification Test
No
- Go To 5
5. GLOW PLUG
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Connect each Glow Plug connector.
3. Connect the Glow Plug Module connector.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. With the scan tool, erase ECM DTCs.
6. Refer to the Service Information and perform the Glow Plug Test on each Glow plug.
Did each Glow Plug pass the test?
Yes
- Go to 6
No
- Replace the appropriate Glow Plug.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test.ECM Verification Test
6. GLOW PLUG MODULE
1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Glow Plugs and the Glow Plug Module.
2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
4. Search for any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
