Interior Lighting Master Switch - Operation

OPERATION

On vehicles equipped with the optional interior rear lighting master switch, the operating mode of the interior rear lighting can be controlled from the driver side front seating position. When the three-position rocker switch is in the neutral position, the rear interior lamps are on AUTOMATIC control. AUTOMATIC control allows the lights to illuminate automatically when a door is opened, when the vehicle is unlocked or, on vehicles with the optional motion detector, when motion is detected in the rear of the vehicle. However, some optional lamps have their own dedicated three-position switches which allow those lamps to be individually manually included or excluded from automatic control.

When the top of the master switch three-position rocker is depressed, the rear interior lamps are switched ON. in the neutral position, the rear interior lamps are on automatic control. Again, some optional lamps have their own dedicated three-position switches which allow those lamps to be individually manually included or excluded from being switched ON. When the bottom of the master switch three-position rocker is depressed, the rear interior lamps are switched OFF. When the OFF position is selected, all interior rear lighting is turned OFF, regardless of the setting of the individual lamp switches

The master switch provides signals to the Body Control Module (BCM) (also known as the Signal Acquisition and Actuation Module/SAM) through two individual circuits. The BCM uses internal programming and these master switch inputs to determine the correct outputs and operating mode for the interior rear lighting circuits.

The hard wired circuits of the master switch may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. However, conventional diagnostic methods will not prove conclusive in the diagnosis of the BCM or the electronic controls or communication between modules and other devices that provide some features of the interior rear lighting system. The most reliable, efficient, and accurate means to diagnose the BCM or the electronic controls and communication related to interior rear lighting operation requires the use of a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
