Suspension - Rear Shock Popping Or Clicking Sound

Rear Shock Popping or Clicking Sound

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting and if necessary replace both rear shocks.

MODELS:

2010 (RI) Caravan / Town and Country

NOTE:
This Bulletin applies to vehicles built between January 18, 2010 (MDH 0118XX) and March 5, 2010 (MDH 0305XX) equipped with normal duty suspension sales code (SDA).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customers may experience a popping or clicking sound from the rear of the vehicle while operating at low speeds.

DISCUSSION:
If the customer experiences the SYMPTOM/CONDITION proceed to the inspection procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:

1. Drive the vehicle at 5mph (8km ph) executing typical parking lot maneuvers and listen for a pop or click from the rear suspension.

2. Was a creak or crackle observed?

a. Yes>>>Proceed to the repair procedure.

b. No>>>Continue further diagnosis this bulletin does not apply.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Raise the vehicle on a suitable hoist. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 4- Vehicle Quick Reference> Hoisting.

2. Remove both right and left rear shock absorbers. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 17-Rear Suspension> SHOCK ABSORBER, Suspension, Assembly> Removal.

3. Install new right and left shock absorbers. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 17-Rear Suspension > SHOCK ABSORBER, Suspension, Assembly> Installation.
