Interior, A/C - Defroster Grille Not Flush With Dash

SUBJECT:
Defroster Grill Is Not Fully Seated And/Or Flush With Instrument Panel

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the defroster grille and if necessary securing and/or modifying the mounting locations.

MODELS:

2009-2010 (JC) Journey

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before October 12, 2010 (MDH0102XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience the instrument panel defroster grille not sitting flush in the center or left and right corners. They may also perceive the instrument panel defroster grill as warping.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Inspect the defroster grille to ensure it is properly seated and flush in the instrument panel (Fig. 1). Was the defroster grille seated and flush with the instrument panel?

a. Yes >>> Continue further diagnosis, this bulletin does not apply.

b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 2.





2. Is the defroster grille unseated at the center (Fig. 2)?

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 3.

b. No >>>> Proceed to Step # 4.

3. Using the palm of your hand firmly press the defroster grille back into position. If the defroster grille continues to be resistant and will not properly seat proceed to otherwise proceed to Step # 11.

4. Secure the defroster grill at the right and/or left corner(s) following Step # 5 through Step # 8.

5. Remove instrument panel end caps. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 23-Body > Instrument Panel > CAP, Instrument Panel End > Removal.

6. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT>: Service Info > 23-Body > Instrument Panel > Grille, Defroster > Removal.





7. With the defroster grille removed ensure all clips are seated on the clip towers (Fig. 3).





8. Reinstall the defroster grille and using the palm of your hand firmly press into position beginning at the center and work your way outboard. To secure the right and left corners properly the A-pillar trim must be removed in order to supply sufficient hand pressure (Fig. 4).

9. Install instrument panel end cap. Refer to the detailed installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT >: Service Info > 23-Body > Instrument Panel > CAP, Instrument Panel End > Installation.

10. Install the right and left A-Pillar trim. Refer to the detailed installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > : Service Info > 23-Body > Interior > Panel, A-Pillar Trim > Installation.

11. Return vehicle to the customer.
