Starting System - Intermittent No Crank/No Start

SUBJECT:
No Start No Crank Intermittently

OVERVIEW:
This Bulletin involves inspecting the terminals and if necessary replacing the connector for the Starter Solenoid or only adding grease.

MODELS:

2009-2010 (JC) Journey

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine (Sales Code ED3 or EDG).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Intermittently the vehicle my not Crank (Turn Over). This may be caused by moisture in the Starter Solenoid Connector.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customers experiences the symptom/condition perform the repair procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Disconnect the Battery, Mass Air Flow Sensor Connector, and Crankcase Breather Tube.

2. Remove the Air Box Cover and the Intake Air to Throttle Body Tube.

3. Remove Air Box Lower Fastener, Lower Push Pin, and Air Box to gain access to the Starter Solenoid.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Starter Solenoid.

NOTE:
Long handled needle nosed pliers may be used to unlock the connectors retaining clip and remove the connector.

5. Inspect the Starter Solenoid Wiring Connector.

6. Does it show signs of corrosion?

a. YES >>> Cut the wire at the connector and replace the connector end with the one supplied in the parts kit. Follow the wire repair information supplied in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT > Group 29 - Non DTC Diagnostics > Circuit Testing Procedures > Standard Procedure > Wire Splicing.

b. NO >>> Proceed to Step # 7.

7. Fill the connector with Die-electric grease.

8. Reconnect the Starter Solenoid electrical connector.

9. Reinstall the Air Box, and Air Box Lower Fastener, Push Pin.

10. Reinstall the Intake Air to Throttle Body Tube and the Air Box Cover.

11. Reconnect the Crankcase Breather Tube, Mass Air Flow Sensor Connector, and Battery.

12. Verify proper Starter function.
