POWER LIFTGATE LATCH HOMING
Following every power liftgate cinch or release sequence, the latch returns to a home or neutral position. If for any reason the latch is unable to return to the home position, the Power Liftgate Module (PLGM) (also known as the Power Liftgate/PLG control module) will sense this through hard wired inputs from the sector, primary ratchet and secondary ratchet switches integral to the latch and prevent the latch from releasing. If this condition exists, activation of the power liftgate using the front or rear switches, or the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) FOB with Integrated Key (FOBIK) will result in a short, audible beep tone being issued from the power liftgate chime. This indicates that it is necessary to perform a latch homing routine. Latch homing in many cases can be initiated by pulling on the exterior liftgate handle. If unsuccessful, then a diagnostic scan tool must be used to run a routine that allows the latch to be returned to the home position as follows:
1. Connect a diagnostic scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
2. Follow the programming steps outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for Latch Home Position Test under the PLGM/Power Liftgate Module menu item.
3. If the Latch Home Position Test is unsuccessful, disconnect the battery for 60 seconds. Reconnect the battery, then lift the outside liftgate handle and hold it for at least 20 seconds to actuate the handle switch.
4. If the liftgate latch still does not release, use the diagnostic scan tool to select Actuators and Latch Motor Release Direction. This will drive the latch motor for longer than actuating the outside handle switch.
5. If driving the latch motor using the Latch Motor Release Direction works to release the latch, perform the Latch Home Position Test again before returning the vehicle to the owner. If driving the latch motor using the Latch Motor Release Direction does not work to release the latch, use the Power Liftgate Latch Manual Override standard procedure to open the liftgate and continue the diagnosis as required.
