Headlamp Leveling Switch - Description - Export

DESCRIPTION

Figure 1 - Right-Hand Drive

Figure 2 - Left-Hand Drive
The headlamp leveling switch (2) is used only on vehicles equipped with a manual remote headlamp leveling system and manufactured for certain markets where the headlamp leveling system is required. Two unique versions of the headlamp leveling switch are used. On Right-Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles, the headlamp leveling switch is mounted on the driver side of the instrument panel between the headlamp switch and the steering column. On Left-Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles, the headlamp leveling switch is integral to the dimmer module, which includes the interior and panel lamps dimmer thumbwheel (3) and is also mounted on the driver side of the instrument panel between the headlamp switch and the steering column.

In either case, only the switch face plate (1) and thumbwheel are visible on the outer surface of the instrument panel. The black plastic switch face plate is labeled with an International Control and Display Symbol icon to clearly identify the function of the thumbwheel and the white numbers 0, 1 and 2, each of which indicates one of the three switch detent positions. Each higher number represents a lower aiming position of the headlamp beam relative to the road surface. Panel dimmer controlled Light Emitting Diode (LED) units soldered to the circuit board within the switch housing provide back lighting for visibility at night, but are not serviceable.

The black, molded plastic switch housing encloses the switch thumbwheel mechanism and the leveling switch circuitry including the switch contacts and a series resistor configuration. A connector receptacle is integral to the back of the switch housing. The RHD leveling switch is secured in the instrument panel by two integral spring steel retainers, one on each side of the switch housing. The LHD dimming module with leveling switch has three mounting tabs that are secured by screws to the back of the headlamp switch bezel on the instrument panel. Both switches are connected to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the instrument panel wire harness.

The RHD headlamp leveling switch cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if ineffective or damaged, the unit must be replaced. The LHD headlamp leveling switch cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if the leveling switch or the dimmer switch is ineffective or damaged, the dimmer module unit must be replaced.
