B16D3-11

B16D3-11-RIGHT DRL LAMP CONTROL - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation

For certain export applications, the Body Control Module (BCM) provides voltage to the headlamp leveling switch and motors. This is done through the same BCM driver circuit that controls the Right Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) on other applications. For additional information on the Headlamp Leveling operation, Headlamp Alignment Actuator - Operation and Headlamp Leveling Switch - Operation - Export.

- When Monitored:
With the headlamps active.

- Set Condition:
When the Body Control Module (BCM) detects a low condition on the (L13) Headlamp Level Sensor Signal circuit.

1. INTERMITTENT CONDITION
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
3. Turn the Headlamps on.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display DTC: B16D3-11-RIGHT DRL LAMP CONTROL - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. ATTEMPT TO SET THE OPPOSITE DTC
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Right Front Lamp Assembly C5 harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Left Front Lamp Assembly C5 harness connector.
4. Disconnect the Headlamp Leveling Switch harness connector.
5. Turn the ignition on.
6. Turn the Headlamps on.
7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display DTC: B16D3-15-RIGHT DRL LAMP CONTROL - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY OR OPEN?

Yes

- A concern is present in one of the disconnected components. Reconnect the components one at a time while checking for DTC B16D3-11-Right DRL Lamp Control - Circuit Short to Ground to reset. Replace the appropriate component. Headlamp Alignment Actuator - Removal or Dimmer Switch - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. CHECK THE (L13) HEADLAMP LEVEL SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the BCM A harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (L13) Headlamp Level Sensor Signal circuit.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

Yes

- Replace the Body Control Module (BCM). Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Repair the short to ground in the (L13) Headlamp Level Sensor Signal circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
