Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module (EPPM)

B222A-VEHICLE LINE MISMATCH

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation

When powered, the Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module (EPPM) performs an internal self test. The repair of this fault centers on verifying the EPPM and Body Control Module (BCM) configuration. Configuration covering the model year, vehicle line, country code, body style, and LHD/RHD, and checking for differences between what is programmed in the EPPM and what is actually on the vehicle.

- When Monitored:
The EPPM checks its feature configuration for a stored Vehicle Line and Country Code continuously 12 seconds after initialization. The monitoring rate is done at startup during the first 16 seconds of the key cycle.

- Set Condition:
This DTC sets when the ORC detects a mismatch between the Vehicle Configuration and the EPPM configuration within the early initialization. Once the code sets in this ignition cycle it stays active for this ignition cycle.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. . EPPM System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure

1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC

NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Wait 12 seconds, then with the scan tool, read all active EPPM DTCs.

Is the DTC active or stored?

EPPM - ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)

- Go To 2

EPPM - STORED DTC

- Perform the EPPM SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. . EPPM System Intermittent Test

2. CHECK BCM COUNTRY CODE AND VEHICLE LINE
1. With the scan tool, check for the correct Country Code, Vehicle Line, and Body Style.

Does the Vehicle Configuration in the BCM match the Vehicle Configuration in the EPPM?

Yes

- WARNING: If the Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module (EPPM) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental actuator deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- Replace the EPPM. Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module - Removal.
- Perform the EPPM SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. . EPPM System Verification Test

No

- Configure the BCM.
NOTE: The EPPM Reset Function must be performed after the repair to force the module to retest for this DTC. Access the Miscellaneous Function or Diagnostics Procedures menu from the EPPM ECU Overview screen on the scan tool to perform this operation.
