A/C Compressor - Removal
COMPRESSOR, A/C
WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation Warning and Caution . Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: 3.6L with 10SRE18 compressor shown in illustrations. Other models similar.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the right front inner wheelhouse splash shield Splash Shield - Removal.
5. Remove the splash shields located under the engine and front fascia Front Lower Fascia Closeout - Removal.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.
7. On diesel models remove the charge air cooler inlet hose .
8. Disconnect the wire harness from the A/C clutch coil or compressor control valve, depending on engine application.
NOTE: The A/C compressor for 2.0L diesel models has one common stud and nut retaining both A/C lines to the compressor.
9. Remove the nut or nuts (2 and 4), depending on engine application, that secure the A/C suction line (3) and A/C discharge line (5) to the A/C compressor (1).
10. Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.
NOTE: The A/C compressor for 2.0L diesel models uses three bolts to secure the A/C compressor to the engine.
11. Support the A/C compressor (2) and remove the bolts (1 and 3) that secure the compressor to the engine.
12. Remove the A/C compressor and install plugs in, or tape over, the opened compressor ports and refrigerant line fittings.
