REMOVAL
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with the Electronic Pedestrian Protection (EPP) system, disable the system before attempting any EPP system component diagnosis or service. With the ignition switch in the OFF position, disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the EPP system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental active hood hinge actuator deployment.
NOTE: The following procedure is for replacement of an ineffective or damaged Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module (EPPM). If the Electronic Pedestrian Protection (EPP) system has been deployed, review the recommended procedures for Service After A Pedestrian Protection Deployment before removing the unit from the vehicle. Service and Repair .
1. Move the left front seat to the most forward and most raised position for easiest access to the Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module (EPPM) (2).
2. With the ignition switch in the OFF position, disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.
3. Working from behind the left front seat, locate the EPPM on the floor panel under the left front seat.
4. The EPPM cover (1) is secured to the EPPM (2) by a latch tab located on the forward and rearward sides of the cover. Gently pry both latch tabs away from the EPPM far enough to disengage the latches from the slots in the base of the EPPM housing, then lift the cover off of the EPPM.
5. Disconnect the two body wire harness connectors (2) from the EPPM connector receptacles located on the inboard facing side of the module. To disconnect the wire harness connectors from the EPPM, depress the release tab and lift the lever arm to the fully open position on each connector.
6. Remove the four nuts (3) that secure the EPPM mounting bracket to the four weld studs on the floor panel.
7. Lift the EPPM and mounting bracket unit far enough to disengage the mounting bracket from the weld studs and remove the EPPM and mounting bracket unit from under the seat.
