Interior Lighting - Description

DESCRIPTION

The interior lighting system for this vehicle includes lighting on two separate circuits: the dome/courtesy lamp circuit and the panel lamps dimmer circuit. The lamps on the dome/courtesy circuit include:

- Center Bezel Lamp - A standard center bezel lamp with a replaceable incandescent bulb is located on the underside of an opening in the instrument panel center bezel to illuminate the center console forward storage bin and is supplied voltage by the park lamp circuit to illuminate whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Center Floor Console Cup Holder Lamp - The cup holders in the center floor console include a standard equipment light pipe around their inside perimeter illuminated by an LED lamp unit to assist visibility at night. This lamp is controlled by the panel lamps dimmer circuit and illuminates whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Front Dome/Reading Lamps (3) - The standard front dome/reading lamp is centered right to left in the headliner near the windshield header, includes two bulbs and is switched by the door ajar switches or the interior lighting control sleeve of the left multi-function switch. This lamp also has two integral push button actuated switches. In vehicles with an optional overhead console these lamps are replaced by two incandescent dome/reading lamps mounted in the same location, with includes integral switches that are actuated by depressing the lamp lens. In vehicles with an optional Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting package, with or without an overhead console, the two incandescent dome/reading lamps are replaced by two articulating eyeball LED lamp units that also include integral switches that are actuated by depressing the lamp lens.
- Front Door Map Pocket Lamps - Front door trim panel map pockets on some models include an LED lamp unit to assist visibility at night. These lamps are controlled by the panel lamps dimmer circuit and illuminate whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Glove Box Lamp (2) - A standard glove box lamp with an integral plunger-actuated switch is located at the upper outboard corner of the instrument panel lower glove box opening and illuminates whenever the glove box door is opened.
- Instrument Panel Courtesy Lamps (1) - Vehicles equipped with an optional LED lighting package have an LED courtesy lamp unit beneath each end of the instrument panel near the lower instrument panel reinforcement.
- Liftgate Courtesy Lamp (7) - A standard liftgate courtesy lamp is located in the center of the lower liftgate trim panel and is activated automatically whenever the liftgate is opened to illuminate the rear cargo area of the vehicle.
- Rear Dome/Reading Lamps (5) - The standard rear dome/reading lamp includes a single bulb and a switch that is actuated by depressing the lamp lens. In vehicles with an optional LED lighting package, the incandescent lamp is replaced by a lamp that includes a fixed auxiliary LED dome lamp and two articulating eyeball LED lamp units that also include integral switches that are actuated by depressing the lamp lens. Each available rear dome/reading lamp is located in the center of the headliner between the second and third row seating.
- Rechargeable Flashlight (6) - An optional, removable twin-LED flashlight powered by rechargeable lithium batteries is mounted in a bezel/charging station located in the left quarter trim panel near the D-pillar in the cargo area of the vehicle.
- Vanity Lamps (4) - Optional single-intensity vanity lamps are located on both sides of a covered mirror on both the right and left sun visors. These lamps are controlled by an integral vanity mirror cover-actuated switch.

Most controls on the instrument panel and elsewhere in the interior of the vehicle are illuminated by the panel lamps dimmer circuit for night visibility. Most have miniature incandescent bulbs, Light-Emitting Diode (LED) units or a combination of the two lighting types that are soldered to internal circuit boards and are not serviceable. Only the automatic transmission gearshift indicator incandescent bulb is available for individual service replacement.

Other components of the interior lighting system for this vehicle include:

- Body Control Module - The Body Control Module (BCM) (also known as the Common Body Controller/CBC) is located beneath the instrument panel on the passenger side of the vehicle. Description and Operation.
- Dimmer Module - A dimmer module is located on the left side of the instrument panel, below and outboard of the steering column just inboard from the headlamp switch. The dimmer module features a vertical thumbwheel for selecting the panel lamps dimming level, a PARADE mode to illuminate all Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) units at full brightness for visibility when driving in daylight with the exterior lighting turned ON. There are also detent positions to turn ON all interior courtesy lighting, and a DEFEAT position that overrides door ajar switch control of interior lighting.
- Door Ajar Switches - A door ajar switch is integral to the door latch mechanism of each front and rear door.
- Liftgate Ajar Switch - A liftgate ajar switch is integral to the latch mechanism of the liftgate.

Hard wired circuitry connects the interior lighting system components to the electrical system of the vehicle. These hard wired circuits are integral to several wire harnesses, which are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by many different methods. These circuits may be connected to each other, to the vehicle electrical system and to the interior lighting components through the use of a combination of soldered splices, splice block connectors, and many different types of wire harness terminal connectors and insulators. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, proper wire and connector repair procedures, further details on wire harness routing and retention, as well as pin-out and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds.
