B00B5-13-DRIVER SEAT TRACK POSITION RESTRAINTS SENSOR-CIRCUIT OPEN
Special Tools:
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
When powered, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) sends a test current to the seat track position sensors to verify the integrity of the sensor and wiring. The use of the SRS Load Tool Adapter tool in the tests below provides a test point in place of the module connectors.
- When Monitored:
With voltage in the normal range and the sensor configured. The ORC monitors the status of the seat position sensor circuits every 50 ms. continuously for the ignition cycle.
- Set Condition:
This DTC sets when the ORC detects a short to voltage or open on the seat position sensor circuits for more than 2,6 seconds. This DTC transitions from active to stored when the module sees a recovery from the shorted to voltage or open condition for 4.3 seconds.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraint System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
Diagnostic Test
1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Perform ORC module reset. Access the Miscellaneous Function menu from the ORC ECU Overview screen on the scan tool to perform this operation.
3. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Is the DTC active or stored?
ACTIVE DTC
- Go To 2
STORED DTC
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraint System Intermittent Condition Test.
2. INSPECT DRIVER SEAT HARNESS WIRES AND CONNECTORS
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
1. Using the wiring diagram/schematics as a guide, inspect the Driver Seat Harness wiring and connectors. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals, and correct pin tension.
Are any of these conditions present?
Yes
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness if any of these conditions exist.
- Repair or replace the circuit with voltage present for a short to voltage.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraint System Verification Test.
No
- Go To 3
3. VERIFY THAT THE DRIVER SEAT HARNESS IS ROUTED CORRECTLY
1. Verify that the Driver Seat Harness is routed correctly.
Is the Driver Seat Harness routed correctly?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Reroute and secure the Driver Seat Harness as necessary.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraint System Verification Test.
4. CHECK (R729) DRIVER SEAT DETECTION RETURN CIRCUIT AND (R263) DRIVER SEAT POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Disconnect the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector.
2. Disconnect the ORC C1 and C2 connectors.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
3. Connect the SRS Load Tool Adapter to the ORC C1 and C2 connectors. (8443-57)
WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
4. Measure the voltage of the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit between the SRS Load Tool Adapter cavity C1B-40 and ground.
5. Measure the voltage of the (R729) Driver Seat Detection Return circuit between the SRS Load Tool Adapter cavity C1B-53 and ground (8443-57)
Is there any voltage present on either circuit?
Yes
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: If the short is found in the Seat Harness, do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness.
- Repair or replace the circuit with voltage present for a short to voltage.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraint System Verification Test.
No
- Go To 5
5. CHECK (R729) DRIVER SEAT DETECTION RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
1. Measure the resistance of the (R729) Driver Seat Detection Return circuit between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 1 and the SRS Load Tool Adapter C1B-53. (8443-57)
Is the resistance below 1.0 Ohm?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
NOTE: If the open is found in the Seat Harness, do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness.
- Repair or replace the (R729) Driver Seat Detection Return circuit for an open.
