Poor Or No AM/FM Audio Reception






POOR OR NO AM/FM AUDIO RECEPTION

NOTE:
There are two versions of the POOR OR NO AM/FM AUDIO RECEPTION test. In order to select the proper test you must know if the vehicle is equipped with a mast antenna mounted on the fender. If the vehicle is equipped with a mast antenna mounted on the fender use the POOR OR NO AM/FM AUDIO RECEPTION test. If the vehicle is not equipped with a mast antenna mounted on the fender use the POOR OR NO AM/FM AUDIO RECEPTION-BUX test.





Diagnostic Test

1. CHECK THE ANTENNA CONNECTION
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the white Radio harness connector at the back of the Radio.
3. Inspect the Audio Antenna harness connection.

Is the Antenna connection clean and secure?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Repair the Antenna connection as needed.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. CHECK THE RADIO
1. Connect the (9977-6-FM) to the white Radio component connector.
2. Place the test Antenna base on the roof of the vehicle.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Drive the vehicle outside to an un-obstructed area.
5. Turn the Radio on and select several different known good stations from the AM and FM bands.

Is the audio reception still poor or not available?

Yes

- Replace the Radio. Radio - Removal
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. TEST THE ANTENNA BASE
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Reconnect the white Radio harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Radio Antenna harness connector at the base.
4. Connect the (9977-6-FM) to the Radio Antenna harness connector.
5. Place the test Antenna base on the roof of the vehicle.
6. Turn the ignition on.
7. Drive the vehicle outside to an un-obstructed area.
8. Turn the Radio on and select several different known good stations from the AM and FM bands.

Is the audio reception still poor or not available?

Yes

- Go To 4

No

- Replace the Radio Antenna.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

4. ANTENNA CABLE




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the (9977-6-FM) from the Radio Antenna harness connector.
3. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (1) to the Radio Antenna harness connector (2) at the Antenna.





4. Disconnect the white Radio C4 harness connector.
5. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-1) (1) or (9977-6-3) (1) to the Radio C4 harness connector (2).
6. Measure the resistance across the tool terminals.

Is the resistance between 47.5 and 52.5 Ohms?

Yes

- The source of the poor reception is not caused by the Radio, Antenna Cable or Radio Antenna.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Replace the Antenna Cable.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
