Cylinder Head Assembly: Specifications






















CAUTION:
The cylinder head bolts are tightened using a torque plus angle procedure. The bolts must be examined BEFORE reuse. If the threads are necked down the bolts must be replaced.

Left Cylinder Head






Right Cylinder Head






NOTE:
Do not apply any additional oil to the bolt threads.

Install the eight head bolts finger tight.

Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown, following this 9 step torque plus angle method. Tighten according to the following torque values:

- Step 1: All to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)

- Step 2: All to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)

- Step 3: All + 75° Turn Do not use a torque wrench for this step.

- Step 4: All + 50° Turn Do not use a torque wrench for this step.

- Step 5: Loosen all fasteners in reverse of sequence shown

- Step 6: All to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)

- Step 7: All to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)

- Step 8: All + 70° Turn Do not use a torque wrench for this step.

- Step 9: All + 70° Turn Do not use a torque wrench for this step.






Left Camshaft Bearing Caps










Right Camshaft Bearing Caps






Install the camshaft bearing caps and hand tighten the retaining bolts to 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.).

NOTE:
Caps are identified numerically (1 through 4), intake or exhaust (I or E) and should be installed from the front to the rear of the engine. All caps should be installed with the notch forward so that the stamped arrows (<) on the caps point toward the front of the engine.

Tighten the bearing cap retaining bolts in the sequence shown to 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.).
