Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor - Operation

OPERATION

The FRPS sends information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on what the pressure is at the fuel rail. The PCM monitors the data received and will determine how much fuel is required to keep adequate pressure at the fuel rail during a stop/start condition.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides a 5-Volt supply to the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (FRPS) and a ground on the sensor return circuit. The Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor provides the signal to the PCM on the FRPS circuit. This sensor signal voltage changes based on the pressure in the fuel rail. The PCM will detect a low and a high signal voltage during fuel rail pressure conditions. The PCM will light the MIL lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and fails.
