Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
U113E-00-LOST COMMUNICATION WITH INTELLIGENT BATTERY SENSOR
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
The Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) is mounted in-line with the negative Battery Cable. The IBS monitors the Battery state of charge and current draw. The IBS also has a built in thermistor that calculates the Battery temperature. This information is reported through a LIN BUS circuit to the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM broadcasts the information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) over the CAN BUS.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on for at least five seconds.
Battery voltage between 10.0 and 16.0 volts.
- Set Condition:
The Body Control Module (BCM) does not receive any information from the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) for more than two seconds.
Diagnostic Test
1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
NOTE:
Visually inspect the negative battery cable connection to the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) for any damage or corrosion. Repair as necessary.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
2. CHECK THE (A916) FUSED B(+) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the IBS harness connector.
3. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (A916) Fused B(+) circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the open or short in the (A916) Fused B(+) circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
3. CHECK THE (D401) LIN BUS CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Measure the voltage between ground and the (D401) LIN Bus circuit in the IBS harness connector.
Is the voltage above 5.0 volts?
Yes
- Replace the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS). Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
No
- Repair the open in the (D401) LIN Bus circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
