Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module - Installation
INSTALLATION
WARNING:
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with the Electronic Pedestrian Protection (EPP) system, disable the system before attempting any EPP system component diagnosis or service. With the ignition switch in the OFF position, disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the EPP system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental active hood hinge actuator deployment.
NOTE:
The following procedure is for replacement of an ineffective or damaged Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module (EPPM). If the Electronic Pedestrian Protection (EPP) system has been deployed, review the recommended procedures for Service After A Pedestrian Protection Deployment before removing the unit from the vehicle. Service and Repair .
1. Carefully position the Electronic Pedestrian Protection Module (EPPM) (2) over the three weld studs on the mounting bracket (3) on the instrument panel cross-car support beam (1) outboard of the steering column. When the EPPM is correctly positioned, the arrow on the EPPM label will be pointed forward in the vehicle.
2. Install and tighten the three nuts (5) that secure the EPPM to the weld studs on the mounting bracket. Tighten the nuts to 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.).
3. Reconnect the two body wire harness connectors (4) to the EPPM connector receptacles located on the downward facing side of the module. Be certain that the latches on both connectors are each fully engaged.
4. Reinstall the steering column opening cover onto the instrument panel. Instrument Panel Cover - Installation.
5. Do not reconnect the negative cable to the battery at this time. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Verification Test procedure should be performed following service of any EPP system component. Service and Repair.
