A/C Compressor Belt Lock Control Function - Diagnosis
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH DOHC ENGINE.
MODELS:
1992 (B7) Stealth
DISCUSSION:
The information supplied in the 1992 Stealth Engine, Chassis & Body Service Manual, (Publication No. 81-270-2115) for diagnosing the air conditioning drive belt lock function is incomplete.
In order to prevent breakage of the AC drive belt and loss of alternator function, 1992 Stealths are equipped with a belt lock controller. This controller compares the AC compressor RPM, measured by the revolution Pick-Up Sensor, and engine RPM. If 70% or more slip is detected for at least three seconds, the compressor relay is de-energized and the compressor is deactivated. In addition, an indicator will begin to blink on the AC controls, indicating this condition (Figure 1).
The wiring diagrams and troubleshooting charts supplied with this TSB should be used when diagnosing A/C drive belt lock conditions.
