Erroneous MIL Illumination, DTC's Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
MODELS:
1996 (B7) Stealth
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL 1996 MODELS WITH 3.0L SOHC ENGINES.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Erroneous MIL illumination with DTC's camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. No change in engine performance is noted.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using the Scan Tool (DRB III) with the appropriate Service Manual, verify all engine/transmission systems are functioning as designed. If Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) other than camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If only DTC's camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction is present and all systems are functioning correctly, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 MD344731 Control Module, Engine
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves testing the camshaft position sensor output, verifying circuit integrity, and replacing the engine control module, if necessary.
1. Test the camshaft position sensor circuit as described in the 1996 Stealth service manual (publication number 81-270-6115) page's 14A-67 and 68.
2. If any problems are found while testing the camshaft position circuit, repair as necessary before preceding.
3. Check the engine control module part number. If P/N MD319637 is found, it should be replaced with a new engine control module P/N MD344731.
NOTE:
THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW.
4. Type the necessary information on the Authorized Modification Label and attach the label near the VECI Label.
