Signal Processing Module: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The Vehicle System Interface Module (VSIM) (1) serves as an interface between the "aftermarket module" and various control modules of the vehicle. It is located in the center console of the vehicle (2) where the transmission floor shifter is normally located on non-fleet equipped vehicles. Depending on the request from the "aftermarket module", the VSIM retrieves information from the Telematics GateWay (TGW), Body Control Module (BCM), Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) Occupant restraint controller (ORC), Instrument Cluster (IC), and Steering Column Module (SCM) via the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus and makes them available for specific applications that the "aftermarket module" may apply. This microprocessor based module shall be in "sleep mode" or "wake-up mode" based on the status of the CAN BUS. The PIM is operational when battery power is supplied independent of the ignition switch power.
