B0111-96
B0111-96-DRIVER REMOTE ACCELERATION SENSOR (SATELLITE) - COMPONENT INTERNAL FAILURE
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
The Driver Remote Acceleration Sensor (Satellite) (Left Side Impact Sensor 1) is mounted near the base of the B-pillar. Restraints - Description. Impact sensors perform their own self test using power supplied by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) then communicate this status back to the module. The repair of this fault centers on verifying the integrity of the sensor's internal circuitry and software validity.
- When Monitored:
The Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) continuously communicates with the Driver Remote Acceleration Sensor (Satellite) (Left Side Impact Sensor 1) over the sensor signal circuit. The sensor communication and on board diagnostics are powered by the ORC signal.
- Set Condition:
This code will set, if the ORC and the Left Side Impact Sensor 1 do not establish and maintain valid data communications. The DTC will become Active after the fault has set for a minimum of 100 milliseconds (ms). The DTC will go to Stored after the ORC Left Side Impact Sensor 1 communication fault has been removed or the suspect left side impact sensor has been replaced. The clearing of this fault is immediate upon the suspect internal error being removed or the suspect sensor being replaced. The Multifunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will set in the instrument cluster.
1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED FAULT CODE
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
IS the DTC: B0111-96-DRIVER REMOTE ACCELERATION SENSOR (SATELLITE) - COMPONENT INTERNAL FAILURE- Active?
Yes
- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- NOTE: Inspect the related wiring harness for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires. Also, inspect the related connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary. Recheck for active DTC B0111-96-DRIVER REMOTE ACCELERATION SENSOR (SATELLITE) - COMPONENT INTERNAL FAILURE. If active go to 2 if stored then repair is complete. Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test .
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraints System Intermittent Condition Test.
2. VERIFY OPERATION OF THE LEFT SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 1
WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
1. Replace the Left Side Impact Sensor 1. Impact Sensor - Removal.
2. Reconnect the vehicle wire harness to the sensor.
3. Remove any special tools or jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components - except the Battery.
WARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
4. Use the scan tool and erase the stored codes in all airbag system modules.
5. Turn the Ignition Off, and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition On.
6. With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Did the active DTC: B0111-96-DRIVER REMOTE ACCELERATION SENSOR (SATELLITE) - COMPONENT INTERNAL FAILURE return?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
3. REPLACE THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER
WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair
