Theory of Operation

When powered, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) performs an internal test. The repair of this fault condition does not involve any external circuitry and centers on verifying the integrity of the module's internal memory.

- When Monitored:
The ORC checks its internal memory for the number of recorded deployment events once at every power up, during the initialization process.

- Set Condition:
This DTC sets when the ORC detects that the maximum allowable number of recorded deploy events has been reached. Once set, this DTC is latched indefinitely. The multifunction indicator lamp (MIL) will set in the instrument cluster.

REPLACE THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER

WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
