B1002-02-IMMOBILIZER COIL - GENERAL SIGNAL FAILURE

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation

The immobilizer coil (ring) is mounted around the ignition switch tumbler so that it can read the secret key code stored in the RKE Fob. If the code does not match the secret key code in the Body Control Module (BCM), it will not send a "Start" message to the Powertrain Control Module.

- When Monitored:
Continuously whenever the Body Control Module (BCM) is awake.

- Set Condition:
When the BCM senses that the Immobilizer Coil pins or the wiring to the BCM are shorted together, this code will set.

1. TEST FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITION
1. With the scan tool, record and erase the DTCs.
2. Cycle the ignition on to off three times.
3. Turn the ignition on and wait 30 seconds.
4. With the scan tool, read the active DTCs.

Does the scan tool display; B1002-02-IMMOBILIZER COIL - GENERAL SIGNAL FAILURE?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. IMMOBILIZER ANTENNA
1. With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
2. Turn the ignition off.
3. Remove the Immobilizer Antenna from the ignition switch and disconnect the harness connector.
4. Cycle the ignition on to off three times.
5. Turn the ignition on and wait 30 seconds.
6. With the scan tool, read the active DTCs.

Does the scan tool display; B1002-13-IMMOBILIZER COIL - CIRCUIT OPEN?

Yes

- Replace the Immobilizer Antenna.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. (D111) ANTENNA SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) C3 harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (D111) Antenna Signal circuit (Cavity 1) in the Immobilizer Antenna harness connector.

Is the resistance below 40K Ohms?

Yes

- Repair the short to ground in the (D111) Antenna Signal circuit
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 4

4. (D931) ANTENNA SHIELD CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (D931) Antenna Shield circuit (Cavity 2) in the Immobilizer Antenna harness connector.

Is the resistance below 40K Ohms?

Yes

- Repair the short to ground in the (D931) Antenna Shield circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 5

5. (D931) ANTENNA SHIELD CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (D111) ANTENNA SIGNAL CIRCUIT
1. Measure the resistance between the (D931) Antenna Shield circuit and the (D111) Antenna Signal circuit in the Immobilizer Antenna harness connector.

Is the resistance below 40K Ohms?

Yes

- Repair the short between the (D931) Antenna Shield circuit and the (D111) Antenna Signal circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Replace the Body Control Module. Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
