Rear Wiper - Over Current

B1022-19-REAR WIPER - OVER CURRENT

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the wiring information.

Theory of Operation

The Body Control Module (BCM) receives a hardwired signal from the Right Multi-function Switch indicating that the rear wiper is requested. When this signal is received, the BCM provides a voltage output through the rear wiper motor control circuit. For additional information on the Rear Wiper operation, Rear.

- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.

Rear Wiper on.

- Set Condition:
When the Body Control Module (BCM) detects greater than expected current draw on the (W13) Rear Wiper Motor Control circuit.

1. CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
3. Turn the Rear Wiper on.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. ATTEMPT TO SET THE OPPOSITE DTC
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Rear Wiper Motor harness connector.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Turn the Rear Wiper on.
5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display DTC: B1022-13-REAR WIPER - CIRCUIT OPEN?

Yes

- Replace the Rear Wiper Motor. Rear Wiper Motor - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. CHECK THE (W13) REAR WIPER MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the BCM C4 harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (W13) Rear Wiper Motor Control circuit.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

Yes

- Replace the BCM. Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Repair the short to ground in the (W13) Rear Wiper Motor Control circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
