Theory of Operation
Each Body Control Module (BCM) is unique to a vehicle and cannot be used with a different vehicle. The configuration or proxy information is programmed into the module prior to shipment.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
- Set Condition:
The Body Control Module (BCM) is not configured correctly to the vehicle.
1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC
1. With the scan tool, read the active DTCs.
2. With the scan tool, clear all the DTCs.
3. Cycle the ignition switch from off to on.
4. Wait 10 seconds.
5. With the scan tool, read the active DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
2. VERIFY THE BCM IS INSTALLED IN THE CORRECT VEHICLE
1. With the scan tool, read the VIN in the ECU Details.
2. Compare the VIN in the BCM to the vehicle.
Do the VINs match?
Yes
- Check the repair history for any changes that required a configuration/proxy update. Repair as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- The BCM is installed on the wrong vehicle or the BCM was configured incorrectly. Reinstall the BCM on the correct vehicle or replace the BCM. Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
