For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
The Body Control Module (BCM) is the Local Interface Network (LIN) master for the Power Top Control Module. The Power Top Control Module performs a series of self-diagnostics as well as monitoring the Power Top Motor and Power Top Switch. As the LIN master, the BCM receives a set of required messages from the Power Top Control Module indicating the status of the components monitored by the Power Top Control Module.
- When Monitored:
With BCM awake.
- Set Condition:
The Body Control Module (BCM) does not receive one of the required messages from the Power Top Control Module or the message is not formatted correctly.
1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs.
3. Wait 30 seconds.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
2. CHECK FOR AFTERMARKET ACCESSORIES AND CORRECT HARNESS ROUTING
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Check for aftermarket accessories which may be causing the communication concern.
3. Check the harness for correct routing from the Power Top Control Module to the BCM.
Are any concerns present?
