Instrument Panel - Removal






REMOVAL

Special Tools:






WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.






NOTE: The instrument panel cannot be removed as an assembly, the instrument panel cover must be removed prior to removing the reinforcement.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Position the front seat forward.
3. Partially remove the weatherstrip from the lower half of the door.
4. Remove the screw (4) located in the rear of the cowl/scuff panel (1).
5. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, starting at the rear and working forward, pry up to disengage the retaining clips (2 and 3). Do not remove the cowl/scuff panel at this time.





6. Remove the front screw (3) from the cowl/scuff panel (1).
7. Disengage the cowl/scuff panel (1) upper retaining clip by pulling rearward on the cowl/scuff panel.
8. Remove the cowl/scuff panel (1) and repeat steps for the opposite side.





9. Position the parking brake handle up fully.
10. Remove the rear cupholder insert (2).
11. Remove the rear retaining nut (3) located in the rear cupholder cavity.
12. Pull the rear floor console rearward to disengage the front to rear floor console retaining clips/tabs.
13. Slide the rear floor console (1) over the parking brake handle and remove from the vehicle.





14. Remove the screw (2) from the right side console closeout cover (1).
15. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, disengage the front floor console to closeout cover retaining clips.
16. Pull the closeout cover rearward to disengage the retaining clip in the floor.
17. Remove the closeout cover (1) from the vehicle.





18. Remove the screw (2) from the left side closeout panel (1).
19. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, disengage the rear retaining tabs and remove the left side closeout cover (1).





20. Remove the screw (1) securing the front console to shifter bezel cover. Repeat for the opposite side.





21. Remove the front cupholder insert (2).
22. Remove the retaining nuts (1) located in the cupholder cavity and in the rear of the front floor console (4).
23. Pull the floor console rearward slightly and disconnect the 12V power harness (3).
24. Remove the front floor console from the vehicle.





25. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, pry the shifter bezel (3) to disengage the retaining tabs (2).
26. Disconnect the window switches (1) from their harnesses (4) and remove the shifter bezel (3).





27. Remove the screws (1 and 2) securing the shifter hosing bezel (3).
28. Remove the shifter hosing bezel (3).





29. Remove the instrument panel closeout fasteners (1).
30. Remove the instrument panel closeout panel (2).





31. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove the left side vent/trim panel (1).





32. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove the closeout panel (1).
33. Remove the kneeblocker airbag, Knee Blocker Air Bag - Removal.





34. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent (3), disengage the retaining tabs that secure the control panel (1) to the A/C heater control and remove the control panel from the instrument panel (2).





35. Remove the center trim bezel retaining screws.
36. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, disengage the retaining clips from the center trim bezel (1).
37. Disconnect the harness from the switch pod and remove the center trim bezel from the vehicle.





38. Remove the four screws (2, 3, 5 and 6) that secure the A/C heater control (1) to the instrument panel cover (4).





39. Remove the steering wheel and column shroud, Steering Column Shroud - Removal , Removal.
40. Remove the three screws (1) securing the cluster bezel (2).
41. Remove the cluster bezel.
42. Remove the instrument cluster, Instrument Cluster - Removal.





43. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove the defroster grille (1) from the instrument panel.
44. Using Navigation Pod Remover MLR-10313, remove the navigation pod/port (2) from the instrument panel.





45. Remove the radio Radio - Removal.
46. Remove the two screws (2 and 4) that secure the bottom of the center air outlet (1) to the instrument panel (3).





47. Disengage the two retaining tabs (1 and 3) that secure the top of the center air outlet (4) to the instrument panel (2) and remove the outlet.





48. Install Air Vent Remover (10289) (2) onto the demister outlet (1).
49. Carefully pull on Air Vent Remover and remove the demister outlet from the instrument panel cover (3). Repeat on the opposite side.





50. If open, close the glove box door (3) and remove the two screws located on the bottom front edge of glove box module (4) securing the module to the instrument panel cover.
51. Open the glove box door and remove the bolt (2) located in the glove box cavity.
52. Remove the three screws (1) located on the top edge of the glove box module (4).
53. Pull the glove box module (4) out and if equipped, disconnect any wiring harnesses.
54. Remove the glove box module (4).
55. Remove the passenger air bag bolts, Passenger Air Bag - Installation.





56. Remove the fence bolts (1) located in the defroster duct cavity.





57. Remove the fence bolt (1) located in the demister duct cavity. Repeat on the opposite side.





58. Remove the fence bolt (1) located on the lower left area of the instrument panel.





59. Remove the fence bolt (1) located on the lower right area of the instrument panel.





60. Remove the fence bolt (1) located in the radio cavity.





61. Roll the instrument panel cover (1) rearward and disconnect the two PAB squib connectors.
62. With the help of an assistant, remove the instrument panel cover (1) from the vehicle.





63. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the instrument panel structure to the dash/cowl panel.





64. Remove the fasteners (2) securing the instrument panel structure (1) to the floor bracket.





65. Remove the fastener (1) securing the instrument panel structure (1) to the HVAC housing.
66. Disconnect the HVAC wiring harness connectors (2, 3).





67. Locate the nut fastener located forward of the stud (1) securing the lower portion of the instrument panel structure to the HVAC. Repeat for the opposite side.





68. Disconnect the left connector (1) from the occupant restraint module.
69. Remove the ground fastener (2) and eyelet.





70. Remove the doors, Front Door - Removal.
71. Remove the fasteners (1) from the body side securing the the instrument panel structure (2). Repeat for the opposite side.
72. With the help of an assistant, remove the instrument panel structure (2) from the vehicle.
