Integrated Key FOB Transmitter - Description
DESCRIPTION
Vehicles are shipped from the factory with two Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter key fobs programmed to the vehicle as standard equipment. The transmitter circuitry is contained and protected within a molded black plastic case with a black soft rubber touch pad on the face divided into three sections. The rounded button at the forward end of the case has a molded bright plastic emblem with the FIAT logo. Depressing this button releases the spring-loaded mechanical key from a stored position in the left side of the case. Depressing this button again releases the latch for the mechanical key so that it can be folded back and latched into the stored position.
Working rearward from the mechanical key release button are the Unlock, Lock and Liftgate or Trunk touch pads. Each touch pad section has a resistive membrane switch located beneath it. Each touch pad section is clearly identified by molded icons identifying the specific function obtained by depressing that section.
The RKE transmitter is the primary customer active interface for remotely operating the power lock system and the RKE system features. However, the transmitter also has an important passive role in each of the following vehicle systems:
- Sentry Key(R) Theft Deterrent System - Vehicle Theft Security System - Description.
- Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) - Vehicle Theft Security System - Description.
Other than battery replacement, the transmitter cannot be adjusted or repaired. Once a transmitter has been programmed to a vehicle, it cannot be reprogrammed for use on any other vehicle. If damaged or ineffective, the transmitter must be replaced with a new unit. A new and unused transmitter unit must be properly programmed in order to function properly with the systems of the vehicle. The mechanical key of the new transmitter must also be cut to match the coding of the lock cylinders in the vehicle.
