Door Lock Motor - Operation

OPERATION

The power lock motors are controlled by outputs received from the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM acts upon programming as well as hard wired lock or unlock inputs received from the driver side power lock switch, hard wired unlock inputs received from the liftgate release switch or Radio Frequency (RF) inputs received from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters.

A positive and negative battery connection to the two lock motor terminals will cause the motor to move in one direction, locking or unlocking the latch. Reversing the current will cause the motor to move in the opposite direction.

The power lock motors and the hard wired circuits between the motors and the BCM may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. However, conventional diagnostic methods will not prove conclusive in the diagnosis of the power lock system or the electronic controls or communication that provide some features of the power lock system. The most reliable, efficient, and accurate means to diagnose the power lock motors or the electronic controls and communication related to power lock motor operation requires the use of a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
