Spoiler - Removal
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Due to the extensive usage of urethane as the bonding material, only a skilled technician with proficient glass removal experience should attempt this procedure.
CAUTION:
Use appropriate cautionary measures to avoid damaging the painted surfaces of the vehicle.
NOTE: Spoiler is attached with urethane and the removal process will not allow for reuse.
1. At the top of the liftgate (1) measure (4) from the edge of the spoiler (3) to a depth of 25 mm (1 in.) and mark with a grease pencil or equivalent.
2. Place masking tape (2) along the perimeter of the spoiler (4). This will establish the cut line.
NOTE: To avoid damage to the liftgate, Do not exceed a cutting depth beyond 8 mm (5/16 in.)
3. With the use of a cut-off wheel (2) or equivalent, cut through the spoiler following the edge of the masking tape (1) until entire section has been cut.
4. Remove cut center section.
5. Firmly lift upward to remove the remainder of the outer portion of the spoiler. It may be necessary to snap or trim off some areas.
6. Use pliers or equivalent (1), to remove the center section (2) of the lower portion of the spoiler.
7. Use a windshield cutting knife (1) to cut the urethane bead along the side of the spoiler lower section (2).
8. Once a starting point has been established, use a trim stick or equivalent to hold the lower spoiler portion (2) up while continuing to cut the urethane bead along the edge.
9. Once the edge is loose, grip the lower portion of the spoiler (1) firmly and forcefully lift upward. This will release a majority of the urethane (2) from the lower spoiler (1).
10. Should an area not release, cut the urethane bead (1) while continuing to lift upward.
11. Repeat until the complete lower portion of the spoiler (2) has been removed.
12. Trim the remaining urethane bead on the liftgate to a maximum height of 1 mm.
NOTE: Carefully examine the liftgate panel for any damage that will be exposed beyond what the spoiler will cover. If any exists it must be repaired and refinished before proceeding to the installation process.
