B1020
B1020-12-FRONT WIPER LOW SPEED - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
The Body Control Module (BCM) receives a hardwired signal from the Right Multi-function Switch indicating that the low speed front wiper is requested. When this signal is received, the BCM provides a voltage output through the low speed front wiper motor control circuit. For additional information on the Front Wiper operation, Wipers And Washers - Operation.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
Front Wiper off.
- Set Condition:
When the Body Control Module (BCM) detects a high condition on the (W3) Front Wiper Low Speed Driver circuit or detects three consecutive transitions of the Front Wiper Motor Park Switch.
1. CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
3. Turn on and off the Front Wiper.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
2. CHECK THE (W3) FRONT WIPER LOW SPEED DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE IN THE HARNESS
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Front Wiper Motor harness connector.
3. Disconnect the BCM C4 harness connector.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. Measure the voltage between ground and the (W3) Front Wiper Low Speed Driver circuit.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the short to voltage in the (W3) Front Wiper Low Speed Driver circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Go To 3
3. CHECK THE BCM FOR CORRECT OPERATION
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Reconnect the BCM C4 harness connector.
3. Connect a 12-volt test light between the (W3) Front Wiper Low Speed Driver circuit and the (Z910) Ground circuit at the Front Wiper Motor harness connector.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. Turn the Front Wiper on and off.
Does the test light illuminate correctly as the Front Wiper is commanded on and off?
Yes
- Replace the Front Wiper Motor. Front Wiper Motor - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Replace the BCM. Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
