B1075-15

B1075-15-CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY OR OPEN

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation
The Speed Control Switch Pod is a resistor multiplexed unit that provides hard wired inputs to the Body Control Module (BCM) microprocessor. The BCM relays the speed control switch inputs to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) over the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus. The speed control switch pod is located in the right spoke of the steering wheel. This switch has four push buttons and is used on all vehicles equipped with the speed control (also known as cruise control) system. The only visible components of the switch pod are the switch push buttons. The remainder of the switch pod including its mounting provisions and its electrical connection are concealed beneath the switch buttons within the steering wheel.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.

- Set Condition:
The Body Control Module (BCM) detects a short to voltage on the Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit.

1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.

2. CHECK THE (V36) CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Body Control Module C3 harness connector.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Measure the voltage of the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit in the C3 harness connector.

Is the voltage present?

Yes

- Repair the short to voltage in the (V36) Cruise Control Switch Sense circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. SPEED CONTROL SWITCH
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Reconnect the BCM C3 harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Speed Control Switch harness connector.
4. Connect a jumper between the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit and the (X920) Radio/Cruise/Horn Return circuit at the Speed Control Switch harness connector.
5. Turn the ignition on.
6. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the B1075-11-CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND set as active with the jumper in place?

Yes

- Replace the Speed Control Switch. Speed Control Switch - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 4

4. CLOCKSPRING
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Clockspring C1 harness connector.
3. Connect a jumper between the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense and the (X920) Radio/Cruise/Horn Return circuit at the Clockspring C1 harness connector.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the B1075-11-CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND set as active with the jumper in place?

Yes

- Replace the Clockspring. Clockspring - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 5

5. CHECK THE (V36) CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the BCM C3 harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance of the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit between the Clockspring C1 harness connector and the BCM C3 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

- Go To 6

No

- Repair the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

6. CHECK THE (X920) RADIO/CRUISE/HORN RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
1. Measure the resistance of the (X920) Radio/Cruise/Horn Return circuit between the Clockspring C1 harness connector and the BCM C3 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

- Replace and program the Body Control Module (BCM). Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Repair the (X920) Radio/Cruise/Horn Return circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
