C1002-17-TORQUE SENSORS 1 AND 2 - CIRCUIT VOLTAGE ABOVE THRESHOLD

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

- When Monitored:
Continuous.

- Set Condition:
The Electric Power Steering (EPS) Module detects a circuit voltage out of range.





1. DTC C1002-17 IS ACTIVE

NOTE: If multiple DTCs are present, inspect the wiring and harness connector at the EPS Assembly.

1. Turn ignition on and start engine.
2. With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs.
3. Turn the hand wheel to full left turn.
4. Turn the hand wheel to full right turn.
5. Return the hand wheel to center position.
6. With the scan tool, read the DTCs in the EPS Module.

Is the DTC status Active?

Yes

- Go To 3

No

- Test complete. The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.

2. DTC C1002-17 IS ACTIVE

Is Steering System providing power assist?

Yes

- Go To 3

No

- Replace the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Assembly. Steering Column - Removal.
- Perform the EPS VERIFICATION TEST. EPS Verification Test.

3. IMPROPER STEERING COLUMN CALIBRATION
1. Erase DTCs.
2. Turn the hand wheel to full right turn.
3. Return hand wheel to center position.

Does DTC C1002-17 set?

Yes

- Go To 4

No

- Go To 5

4. IMPROPER STEERING COLUMN INSTALLATION
1. Turn ignition off.
2. Disconnect the intermediate shaft, rotate the steering wheel 360 degrees to the left and reattach the intermediate shaft. Intermediate Shaft - Removal.
3. Turn ignition on and start engine.
4. Turn the hand wheel to full right turn.
5. Turn the hand wheel to full left turn.
6. Return the hand wheel to center position.

Does DTC C1002-17 set?

Yes

- Replace the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Assembly. Steering Column - Removal.
- Perform the EPS VERIFICATION TEST. EPS Verification Test.

No

- Test complete. The conditions that originally set this DTC have been corrected.
- The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) may be damaged as a result of the extra rotation due to wrong installation of the steering column. Replace it. Clockspring - Removal.

5. IMPROPER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT INSTALLATION
1. Turn the hand wheel to full left turn.
2. Return the hand wheel to center position.

Does DTC C1002-17 set?

Yes

- Go To 6

No

- Test complete. The conditions that originally set this DTC have been corrected.

6. IMPROPER STEERING COLUMN INSTALLATION
1. Turn ignition off.
2. Disconnect the intermediate shaft, rotate the steering wheel 360 degrees to the right and reattach the intermediate shaft. Intermediate Shaft - Removal.
3. Turn ignition on and start engine.
4. Turn the hand wheel to full left turn.
5. Turn the hand wheel to full right turn.
6. Return the hand wheel to center position.

Does DTC C1002-17 set?

Yes

- Replace the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Assembly. Steering Column - Removal.
- Perform the EPS VERIFICATION TEST. EPS Verification Test.

No

- Test complete. The conditions that originally set this DTC have been corrected.
- The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) may be damaged as a result of the extra rotation due to wrong installation of the steering column. Replace it. Clockspring - Removal.
