Body - Clunk From A-Pillar When Opening Doors

SUBJECT:
Click And/Or Clunk Near A-Pillar While Opening Doors

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting door check strap bolts for looseness and if necessary, applying thread lock sealant to the attachment bolts and tightening them to the specified torque.

MODELS:

2012 (FF) Fiat 500

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before September23, 2011 (MDH 0923XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a click or clunk noise when opening/closing the right or left doors. This may be due to an under-torqued or loose door check strap bolt.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom, inspect both right and left check strap bolts for tightness.

1. Did either bolt appear loose or was sound coming from the check strap?

a. Yes >>> Perform the Repair Procedure.

b. No >>> Further diagnosis required, this bulletin does not apply.





PARTS REQUIRED:

NOTE:
One tube of Lock and Seal Adhesive will service approximately 45 vehicles and is considered a Shop Supply.





SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Remove the door check strap bolt from both right and left doors (1) and apply Mopar Lock and Seal Adhesive (PN 04318031) (Fig. 1).

2. Reinstall door check strap bolts (1) and torque to l8ft.lbs(25nm) (Fig. 1).

3. Verify the clunking or clicking noise is eliminated by opening and closing each door several times.
