Body - Convertible Decklid Won't Close/Ajar Indicator ON

HAVE BEEN LOADED. TO VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS
APPLICABLE TO THE VEHICLE, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN
TECHCONNECT. ALL REPAIRS ARE REIMBURSABLE WITHIN THE PROVISIONS OF

HELP USING THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION FOR FLASHING AN ECU IS
AVAILABLE BY SELECTING "HELP" THEN "HELP CONTENTS" AT THE TOP OF
THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION WINDOW.

THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 13.01 OR HIGHER TO
PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.

SUBJECT:
Flash: Convertible Decklid Will Not Close And Ajar Indicator Lamp On

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Body Control Module (BCM) with new software.

MODELS:

2012 (FF) Fiat 500 (Cabrio only)

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before May 18, 2012 (MDH 0518XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a condition that the rear decklid will not latch, also the ajar indicator will be illuminated. This concern happens more so in cold weather. This concern is caused by the BCM keeping the unlatch motor energize. Once the BCM goes to sleep or if the external trunk handle switch is reactivated, the customer will be able to close the
decklid. The tech may have found that the latch has failed.

Programming the BCM will correct this condition.

DIAGNOSIS:
Verify that the BCM is functioning as designed. Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify no DTC's are set. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If a customers VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Flash reprogram the BCM. Help using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application for flashing the Body Control Module is made available through the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. For instructions select the "HELP" tab on upper portion of the wiTECH window, than "HELP CONTENTS." This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected.

2. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

3. Verify that the decklid will close and latch properly. Does the decklid close and latch properly?

a. Yes >>> The service bulletin has been completed.

b. No >>> Replace the latch, follow repair procedure in TechCONNECT 23 - Body/Decklid/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate/LATCH/Removal and install.

4. Verify that the new decklid latch will close and latch properly.

5. Dose the new decklid latch close and latch properly?

a. Yes >>> The service bulletin has been completed.

b. No >>> Follow normal diagnostic in TechCONNECT.
