SUBJECT:
Unable To Add Engine Oil
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves verifying the oil fill housing is not blocked. If blockage is present replacing the oil fill housing will be necessary.
MODELS:
2012 (FF) Fiat 500
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 1.4L engine (sales code EAB) built between February 18, 2011 (MDH 0118XX) and March 3, 2011 (MDH 0302XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The Customer or Dealer personnel may experience a condition where they are unable to add oil to the vehicle. This condition could be caused by the oil fill extension being blocked.
Replacing the oil fill housing will correct this condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the oil fill housing cap.
3. Using a shop light or flash light look into the oil fill housing for any plastic material blocking the hole at the bottom.
4. Is the oil fill housing blocked?
a. YES >>> Proceed to Step # 5.
b. NO >>> Repair complete, return vehicle to customer or inventory.
5. Remove the air cleaner body from the vehicle. Following the detailed procedures found in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > 09 Engine > Air Intake System > Body, Air Cleaner, removal - Air Cleaner Body.
6. Disconnect the vent hose (3) from the oil filler housing (Fig 1).
7. Remove two bolts (3) and reposition the wire harness duct (1) (Fig 2).
8. Remove the bolt (3), oil filler housing lock (2) and the oil filler housing (1) from the cylinder head cover.
9. Install the new oil filler housing (1) to the cylinder head cover. Secure the oil filler housing (1) with the oil filler housing lock (2) and bolt (3) tightened to 9 N.m (80 in.lbs.).
NOTE:
The oil filler housing lock (2) will orientate the vent hose connection port to the correct position and prevent the oil fill housing from backing off when the oil fill cap is removed.
10. Install the wiring harness duct (1) to the cylinder head cover with two bolts (3) tightened to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.) (Fig. 2).
11. Connect the vent hose (3) to the oil filler neck (Fig. 1).
12. Install the air cleaner body from the vehicle. Following the detailed procedures found in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > 09 Engine > Air Intake System > Body, Air Cleaner, install - Air Cleaner Body.
13. Install the engine cover.
