Mode Door Cable - Removal
REMOVAL
Special Tools:
WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: Whenever the mode control cable is removed from the HVAC housing, a new cable must be installed. Failure to replace the mode control cable when required can result in operating modes not being properly obtained.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent (3), disengage the retaining tabs that secure the control panel (1) to the A/C heater control and remove the control panel from the instrument panel (2).
3. Remove the instrument panel center bezel Instrument Panel Center Bezel - Removal.
4. Remove the four screws (2, 3, 5 and 6) that secure the A/C heater control (1) to the instrument panel cover (4).
5. Remove the instrument panel cover Instrument Panel Cover - Removal.
6. Using a small screwdriver or similar tool, carefully remove the mode control cable retaining clip (1) from the left side of the HVAC housing (4).
7. Disconnect the mode control cable (2) from the mode door cam (3).
NOTE: Illustration shown with A/C heater control removed from vehicle for clarity.
8. Carefully position the A/C heater control (2) to gain access to the back of the control.
9. Using a small screwdriver or similar tool, remove the retaining clip (5) that secures the mode control cable (4) to the back of the A/C heater control and disconnect the cable from the lever (7).
10. Remove the mode control cable from the vehicle.
