A/C Compressor - Removal






A/C COMPRESSOR

WARNING: Refer to the applicable Warnings and Cautions for this system before performing the following operation Warning and Caution . Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

CAUTION: The A/C condenser and receiver/drier must be replaced as an assembly if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C condenser and receiver/drier can cause serious damage to the replacement A/C compressor A/C Condenser - Removal .





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the engine trim cover.
3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
4. Disconnect the high pressure fuel line (1) from the fuel rail Fuel Rail - Removal.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor.





6. Disengage the plastic retaining bracket (6) from the A/C discharge line (1).
7. Remove the bolts (2 and 4) that secure the A/C discharge line and A/C suction line (5) to the A/C compressor (3).
8. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
9. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.





10. Loosen the two bolts (3) that secure the drive belt guard (1) to the accessory drive bracket (2) and remove the belt guard and bolts.
11. Remove the accessory drive belt Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.





12. Disconnect the wire harness connector (4) from the A/C compressor (1).
13. Loosen the bolt (2) that secures the upper front of the A/C compressor and the discharge line bracket (3) to the accessory drive bracket, and remove the bolt and bracket.
14. Remove the bolt (6) that secures the rear of the A/C compressor and the wire harness bracket (7) to the accessory drive bracket, and position the wire harness bracket out of the way.
15. Support the A/C compressor.
16. Remove the bolt (5) that secures the lower front of the A/C compressor to the accessory drive bracket, and remove the compressor.
