Manual Temperature Control (MTC) System
MANUAL TEMPERATURE CONTROL (MTC)
Special Tools:
WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent (3), disengage the retaining tabs that secure the control panel (1) to the A/C heater control and remove the control panel from the instrument panel (2).
3. Remove the instrument panel center bezel Instrument Panel Center Bezel - Removal.
4. Remove the four screws (2, 3, 5 and 6) that secure the A/C heater control (1) to the instrument panel cover (4).
5. Remove the instrument panel cover Instrument Panel Cover - Removal.
6. Using a small screwdriver or similar tool, carefully remove the mode control cable retaining clip (1) from the left side of the HVAC housing (4).
7. Disconnect the mode control cable (2) from the mode door cam (3).
8. Disconnect the HVAC wire harness connector (2) from the blower motor (4), located on the left side of the HVAC housing (5).
9. Using a small screwdriver or similar tool, carefully remove the temperature control cable retaining clip (1) from the right side of the HVAC housing (3).
10. Disconnect the temperature control cable (4) from the blend door gear (2).
11. Disconnect the HVAC wire harness connector (4) from the blower motor resistor (2), located on the bottom of the air inlet housing (1).
12. Disconnect the HVAC wire harness connector (6) from the recirculation door actuator (4), located on the bottom of the air inlet housing (2).
NOTE: illustration shown with air inlet housing removed for clarity.
13. Disconnect the HVAC wire harness (1) from the A/C heater module (2) and the evaporator temperature sensor (5).
14. Remove the screw (6) that secures the HVAC wire harness bracket (4) to the right side of the HVAC housing (7).
15. Disengage the HVAC wire harness from the two plastic retaining brackets (3 and 8).
16. Remove the A/C heater control (1), control cables (4 and 6) and the HVAC wiring harness as an assembly from the vehicle.
NOTE: To aid in reinstallation, note the installed positions of the control cables prior to removal.
17. If required, using a small screwdriver or similar tool, remove the retaining clips (2 and 5) that secure the control cables to the back of the A/C heater control and disconnect the cables from the levers (3 and 7).
