Center Mounted Brake Lamp - Removal
LAMP - CABRIO
NOTE: The Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) used on Cabrio models is serviced only as a complete unit. The lamp is removed with the molding or spoiler located on the outside of the convertible top cover directly over the cross member above the back glass. This CHMSL is illuminated by several Light-Emitting Diode (LED) units that are serviced only as a complete unit with the CHMSL.
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Working from the rear seat of the vehicle and starting at either side, carefully pull the corner of the headliner adjacent to the top of the back glass away from the C-pillar far enough to access and detach the hook and loop fastener patches that secure it to the convertible top cross member (1) above the back glass.
3. From the loose corner of the headliner and working across the top of the back glass to the opposite C-pillar, detach all of the hook and loop fastener patch from the cross member above the back glass.
4. Pull the headliner down from the convertible top far enough to access and disconnect the CHMSL pigtail wire connector from the body wire harness connector.
5. Disengage the CHMSL pigtail wire harness and push the harness grommet out through the cross member to the outside of the convertible top cover.
6. Remove the four screws (2) that secure the spoiler molding and CHMSL unit to the cross member above the back glass.
7. Working from the exterior of the vehicle, remove the CHMSL and spoiler molding assembly from the convertible top cover.
8. Remove the two screws (1) that secure the CHMSL housing (2) to the back of the spoiler molding (3).
9. Remove the CHMSL from the back of the spoiler molding.
