Front Stabilizer Bar - Installation






INSTALLATION

NOTE: While raising the crossmember, pay close attention to the steering rack pinion shaft so that it properly fits up and into the dash boot between the rack and body.





1. Install the stabilizer bar (1), link ends first, over top of the crossmember. Curve the ends of the bar over the steering gear.





2. Slowly raise the crossmember into mounted position using the transmission jack, matching the crossmember to the marked locations on the body made during removal. Ensure that the steering rack pinion shaft is aligned with the dash panel boot opening.
3. Install steering rack mounting bolts and tighten to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the four rear mounting bolts (2) securing the front crossmember to the body. Do not fully tighten the crossmember mounting bolts at this time.
5. Install two front mounting bolts (1, 3) securing the front crossmember to the body. Do not fully tighten the bolts at this time.
6. Remove the transmission jack.






NOTE: Stabilizer bar cushion retainer bolts have fastener adhesive on them and are required to be replaced with new bolts every time they are removed.

7. Install four NEW bolts securing the stabilizer bushing retainers to the crossmember. Tighten the right side stabilizer bar cushion retainer bolts (1) to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





8. Tighten the left side stabilizer bar cushion retaining bolts (1) to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).






NOTE: Ensure that the front support beams are inserted into the crossmember front clevis prior to installing the tunnel support brace bolts in the next step.

9. Install tunnel support brace (2). Install mounting bolts (1) and tighten to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).





10. Install rear engine mount insulator Engine Mount Insulator - Installation.
11. Install the exhaust pipe Installation.





12. Attach the upper stabilizer link at the strut on each side of the vehicle. While holding the stabilizer stud stationary, install and tighten each nut (1) to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
13. Attach the stabilizer bar link at each end of the stabilizer bar. At each link, install and tighten the nut while holding the stabilizer bar link lower stud stationary. Tighten the nuts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





14. Install outer tie rod end (5) to knuckle (3). Install nut (4) on tie rod stud and tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
15. Install lower ball joint stud (1) to knuckle (3) and install retaining nut (2). Tighten nut to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
16. If equipped, install the engine belly pan.





17. Install tire and wheel assembly Tires And Wheels - Installation.
18. Lower the vehicle.





19. Verify the front wheels of vehicle are in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.
20. Install intermediate shaft (2) to steering rack pinion shaft. Install a NEW pinch bolt and tighten to 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
21. Perform wheel alignment as necessary Wheel Alignment Procedures.





22. After the alignment has been performed, tighten four rear mounting bolts (2) to 165 Nm (122 ft. lbs.) and tighten two front mounting bolts (1, 3) to 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.).
