NOISE - MOAN - DURING AIR CONDITIONING OPERATION - ECONOLINES w/4.9L, 5.0L, OR 5.8L ENGINES BUILT BETWEEN JOB #1 AND JULY 11, 1983
LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 ECONOLINE
A low level moan may be heard at idle or acceleration on some A/C equipped vehicles during A/C operation and hot/humid weather conditions due to the compressor line contacting the brake booster causing an amplified sound. This condition may be eliminated using the following service procedure:
Figure 15:
^ Locate a 1/4 inch hole in the cowl flange 16-1/8 inch from the left fender as shown in Figure 15.
^ If the hole does not exist, drill a 1/4 inch - 3/8 inch hole 16-1/8 inch from left fender.
NOTE: After drilling hole, be certain to properly deburr the hole to avoid cuffing the plastic tie strap.
^ Install a plastic tie strap through the hole and around the discharge line as shown in Figure 15.
^ Adjust strap to hold discharge line 1/8 inch - 1/2 inch clear of brake booster in the area shown in Figure 15.
