Assembly
1. Install throttle shaft and lever assembly with torsion throttle return spring and bushing in throttle body flange.
2. Position throttle plate on throttle shaft with notch in plate aligned with slotted idle port in throttle body flange.
3. Install throttle plate attaching screws snug but not tight.
4. Move shaft back and forth and rotate it to ensure that throttle plate does not bind in flange bore. It is necessary that throttle plate should close tight in bore, therefore, idle speed screw should be backed out far enough to ensure that it does not contact throttle stop.
5. Reposition plate as necessary, then tighten screws and stake them in place.
6. Install idle mixture screw and spring and a new adjustment limiting cap or tamper resistant cap, setting screw to same number of turns out from lightly seated position as noted during disassembly.
7. Place new body flange gasket and the main body casting on the throttle body flange, then install attaching screws and tighten evenly.
8. Using suitable tool, install low speed jet and main metering rod jet.
9. Install pump diaphragm in pump diaphragm housing, positioning pump diaphragm spring on diaphragm shaft and housing assembly.
10. Install spring shim washers in proper location, then install spring retainer.
11. Install pump lifter link.
12. Install throttle shaft arm and pump connector link, metering arm and spring assembly and the upper pump spring on the diaphragm shaft.
13. Depress the spring and install upper pump spring retainer.
14. Install metering rod on metering rod arm and place looped end of metering rod arm spring on metering rod.
15. Align pump diaphragm with pump diaphragm housing, ensuring that holes are aligned, then install housing attaching screws to keep diaphragm and housing aligned.
16. Align pump housing, pump lifter link, metering rod and baffle plate with main body casting, ensuring that vacuum passage in diaphragm housing is aligned with vacuum passage in main body.
17. Install assembly in main body casting, being sure to engage pump lifter link with lifter link seal and main body, and to insert metering rod into main jet.
18. Install pump housing attaching screws snug but not tight.
19. Push down on diaphragm shaft to compress diaphragm, then tighten attaching screws.
20. Adjust metering rod.
21. On 1982 - 83 models and 1984 Bronco II and Ranger, position temperature compensated pump bleed valve and washer and install valve retaining screw, then install new welch plug by seating securely with 1/4 inch flat drift punch.
22. On all models, install fast idle cam and shoulder screw.
23. Install throttle shaft arm and pump connector link on throttle shaft and pump lifter link.
24. Tighten lock screw, then install E-clip, vent rod actuating lever, spring washer, operating lever and retaining screw at end of throttle shaft and tighten retaining screw.
25. On 1982 -83 models and 1984 Bronco II and Ranger, install choke shaft assembly in air horn.
26. On 1984 - 86 models except 1984 Bronco II and Ranger, engage choke pulldown link with choke shaft lever and the pulldown rod.
27. Position diaphragm bracket on air horn and install two attaching screws.
28. Connect pulldown vacuum hose from throttle body vacuum connector to diaphragm housing.
29. On all models, position choke plate on choke shaft and install screws snug.
30. Ensure that choke plate is not binding, then tighten screws.
31. Install choke link lever and tighten attaching screw.
32. Install needle seat and gasket in air horn, then invert air horn and install needle, pin spring, needle pin, float and lever assembly and the float pin.
33. Adjust float level to specifications.
34. Align bowl vent flapper valve with vent rod, ensuring that spring is properly installed on the vent rod shaft, then install spring retainer.
35. Place pump check ball and weight in main body casting.
36. Position new air horn gasket, air horn assembly and dashpot, solenoid or ISC unit bracket on main body, then install and tighten attaching screws. When installing air horn assembly onto main body, ensure that mechanical fuel bowl is engaged with forked actuating lever, if equipped.
37. On 1982 - 83 models and 1984 Bronco II and Ranger, install thermostatic coil housing, gasket and baffle plate, identification mark facing outward, with gasket between baffle and coil housing.
38. Ensure that thermostatic spring engages choke lever tang and is not stopped by retaining tab on baffle plate, then install keyed retainer, two new rivets and remaining screw.
39. On 1984 - 86 models except 1984 Bronco II and Ranger, install choke housing gasket, locking and indexing plate, notched choke cap gasket, thermostatic coil housing, retain ring and rivets and/or screw(s). Ensure that thermostatic spring, if equipped, engages choke lever tang and is not stopped by retaining tab on locking and indexing plate.
40. Install feedback solenoid gasket.
41. On all models, install air cleaner bracket and fast idle link.
42. Install EGR WOT dump valve and bracket assembly, if equipped.
43. On 1982 -83 models and 1984 Bronco II and Ranger, install dashpot and front mounted solenoid, if equipped.
44. Engage choke pulldown link with choke shaft lever and the pulldown diaphragm rod, then position diaphragm bracket on air horn and install two attaching screws.
45. Connect pulldown vacuum hose from throttle body vacuum connector to diaphragm housing.
46. Install pulldown motor adjustment limiting shield with two rivets.
47. Install feedback solenoid gasket and two screws.
48. On 1984 - 86 models except 1984 Bronco II and Ranger, install throttle positioner assembly or ISC unit and bracket assembly as equipped.
49. Install wire harness bracket, if equipped.
