Duraspark III, With EEC III Control System
NOTE: Initial timing is not adjustable. Refer to following Rotor Alignment for additional adjustments.
ROTOR ALIGNMENT
- Remove distributor cap. Position ignition wires and cap to the side, then remove the rotor.
- Check rotor alignment by:
- Rotating engine until No. 1 piston is on compression stroke.
- Slowly rotate engine until rotor alignment tool can be inserted in alignment slots in sleeve assembly and adapter.
- Read timing mark on damper. If timing mark is 0 degrees +/- 4 degrees, rotor alignment is acceptable.
Late 1980-82 Rotor Alignment:
- Adjust rotor alignment by:
- Rotating engine until No. 1 piston is on compression stroke.
- Slowly rotate engine until timing pointer aligns with 0 degree timing mark.
- Loosen two sleeve assembly adjustment screws and insert alignment tool into slots in sleeve assembly and adapter.
- Tighten two sleeve assembly screws to 25-35 lb-in. (3.4 Nm)
- Replace rotor on sleeve assembly. Install distributor cap and ignition wires.
