PICKUP BOX ALIGNMENT - CAB TO STYLESIDE BOX

LIGHT TRUCKS ALL F SERIES

Figure 26:

PROCEDURE FOR ALIGNMENT OF F SERIES CAB AND STYLESIDE PICKUP BOX

If it is necessary to revise the plan view alignment of the F Series cab and styleside pickup box, refer to Figure 26 and use the following procedure:

1. Loosen the eight pickup box attaching bolts.
2. Relocate the box so that the front of the box is centered on the rear of the cab.
3. Insure that the cab to box margin at the outboard edge of the box is no less than 21.0 mm (less than that minimum clearance may result in cab to box contact during severe usage).
4. If satisfactory alignment is achieved, tighten the eight box bolts and torque to 54-95 N-m (40-70 ft.lbs.).
5. If satisfactory alignment cannot be achieved following the above instruction, it may be necessary to also adjust the cab position.
6. If the truck has a steering column mounted standard transmission shift lever or an automatic transmission, place the transmission in neutral and loosen the transmission shift rod adjustments (one on automatic, two on manuals).
7. Loosen the cab and front end sheet metal mounting bolts (6 bolts total).
8. Move the cab and pickup box to achieve proper alignment. Insure that the cab to box margin is no less than 21.0 mm.
9. Tighten the eight pickup box bolts and torque to 54-95 N-m (40-70 ft.lbs.).
10. Tighten the four cab bolts and torque them to 68-95 N-m (50-79 ft.lbs.). Tighten the front and sheet metal mounts and torque them to 76-102 N-m (56-75 ft.lbs.).
11. Adjust the transmission linkage following the procedure specified in the Shop Manual (System 17.00 for automatic transmissions and System 16.00 for manual transmissions). If the truck has a mechanical clutch linkage, check the clutch freeplay and adjust as necessary per system 16.03 of the Shop Manual.
