LIGHT TRUCK: 1983-88 RANGER, F SERIES
ISSUE: Performance concerns on vehicles with campers may be related to installation of campers beyond the vehicle's carrying capability. Camper carrying capability documents are available, but may not have reached service departments.
ACTION: When servicing vehicles with performance concerns regarding campers, refer to the vehicle camper carrying capability.
Camper carrying capability can be determined two (2) ways. First, each vehicle is provided with a camper carrying capability statement for that specific vehicle. This sheet gives information showing the vehicle is capable of carrying a camper and notes the weight and center of gravity zone or states that no camper can be carried.

The second method is to calculate the camper carrying capability by using the Truck Camper Consumer Information Booklets available in the sales showroom (Figure 14 shows booklets appearance). Some vehicles are excluded from carrying campers while others may require certain option content. Figures 15 and 16 are excerpts from the information booklet. Size limits must be determined using the tables in the booklets.
The Consumer Information Booklet is intended for use by prospective customers and sales persons to make sure that the vehicle will meet the customer's needs. However, because the documents can aid in service action, a supply of these will be sent under separate cover to the Service Manager. If a re-order is needed, please write to the following address.
