A/T Valve Body - AOD Lack of Engine Power/Shudder
84ford15Article No. 84-8-24
FUEL ECONOMY/POWER REDUCTION/ SHUDDER ON ACCELERATION (4.9L) - AOD TRANSMISSION AND 3.08 AXLE RATIO
LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 F-SERIES
F-Series trucks with 4.9L engines, AOD transmission and 3.08 axle ratio built from Job #1, 1983 through April, 1983 may exhibit customer concerns of low fuel economy, lack of power and/or shudder on acceleration. These conditions may be improved by installing a main control valve body assembly E4TZ-7A100-J (I.D. TTU). This main control (E4TZ-7A100-J) incorporates the 3-4, 4-3 shift pattern revision as outlined in TSBs 83-10-11 and 83-10-11-S and also has a more responsive 3-2 downshift. The later 3-4 upshift and easier 4-3 and 3-2 downshift are the same as those used on the 1984 powertrain application for F-Series trucks. The customer should be informed of the revised shift patterns since the later upshift pattern may be questioned.
The removal and installation procedure for the main control valve body is outlined in the 1983 Truck Shop Manual, Section 17-20. It should be noted that the original valve body cannot be reworked to perform the same as the service valve body E4TZ-7A100-J due to the internal machining differences.
