Chassis Components - Surface Rust/Corrosion
83ford22 Article No. 83-5-16CORROSION (SURFACE RUST) - CHASSIS COMPONENTS
LIGHT TRUCKS 1981-83 E & F SERIES
Although cosmetic surface corrosion on the exposed chassis portions of the subject vehicles due to prolonged storage at the dealership does not affect the performance of the vehicle, it may be undesirable for "showroom" purposes. This concern may now be resolved by dealerships with district prior approval, using Super Seal/undercoating material. To apply the material, proceed as follows:
1. Steam clean the complete chassis.
2. Cover and tape the following areas which are to be free of Super Seal/undercoat material:
^ Front Wheel Ends (All components Outboard of Brake Dustshields)
^ Front Wheel Hub (4x4)
^ Shock Rods
^ Driveshaft Slip Yoke at Transmission/Transfer Case End
^ Rear Wheel Studs and Area Inside
^ Fuel Filler Pipe
^ Parking Brake Strand (Movable Cable)
^ Electrical Connectors
3. Apply paint to the driveshaft, using ordinary enamel or latex black paint compatible with the existing frame color. Then cover the driveshaft to also protect it from the undercoating material.
4. Apply Super Seal/undercoat to the following components:
^ Front Axle and Pivot Brackets
^ Radius Arms and Pivot Brackets
^ Spring Towers and Seats
^ Steering Gear and Linkage
^ Front and Rear Stabilizer Links and Brackets
^ Shock Brackets
^ Body Mount Brackets
^ Transmission Support Crossmember and Gussets
^ Rear Spring Hanger Brackets
^ Rear Spring U-Bolt and Plate
^ Auxiliary Spring Spacers
^ Rear Spring Jounce Stop Bracket
^ Fuel Tank and Shield
^ Full Float Axle Wheel Ends
5. Remove covers and clean up.
